Goalies, Sock Puppets and Other Oddities

Oh so much to discuss and so little time. I have been printing and working on this sh*t like a regular ol' fashioned banshee this past week. (I don't really know if that makes sense) AAAAnyways, the two corresponding pictures directly beneath this paragraph are from the last edition of etchings I did at the shop. It is titled "Upper Canada Sock Puppet Society" and is an intense, academic examination into the quality/quantity of our desires manifest in a post colonial world which seeks to objectify our identity and notions of the self in a commodified mass culture with a myriad of complex power roles found therein and a dis-topian world view which further distorts the gaze of the everyday and the "flaneur,"...or something like that. The photos which follow document my recent woodcut. Printed in four layers, it is titled "From Sea to Shining Goalie" It's about how much I enjoy my place of residence, and getting dinged by pucks.

This is Chris Levesque, he partied with me as I worked and took half of these photos. He's quite the artist himself  and is shown here hard at work.

"Off to the Party"

AAAAAAlright, we're going full steam this week leading up to the outdoor exhibition; July 6, 7 & 8. If you don't have plans and are in the Toronto area, you have to come. City Hall! ART! I'll be at booth 114 in the white section just off of Bay Street. Come and high five me, I may even do some popping and locking if you show up. Anyways, here is an etching I editioned the other day. It's titled "Off to the Party" and is the narrative prequel to the etching I completed earlier this year called "Back from the Party." It features Amelia Earhart and the mythical creature Sasquatch exiting a magical forest on their way to a gathering. Where is this Party? What kind of gathering is it? Who in the heck will be attending? Only few can say...Well, this is how I printed it.

Gnarly Boy Re-Print

So currently I am finishing up some commercial graphic design work and building inventory for the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. http://www.torontooutdoorart.org/  In posts to come soon, I will be posting  about 2 new etchings and 2 new masonite cuts. Plus I will also post editions recently completed at the studio by other artists and some custom graphics I did. I have been so busy at the shop that I have been super slack-ass about documenting work and updating ye ol' blog. Stay on yer feet though, plently a new posts to come soon...

In May I re-printed an old piece called Gnarly Boy to have more work available for the TOAE. The following photos concern said session.
